Ukraine Win Eurovision Song Contest 2022!

Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra have won the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest with their entry, Stefania!

Ukraine won with a total of 631 points, receiving 192 points in the Jury vote and 439 in the Televote (the highest Televote score ever).

Stefania was a song about the lead singer of Kalush Orchestra’s mother, which has taken on a somewhat different meaning, due to recent events. Fundamentally, already being 5th in the odds, before the invasion, and already a fan favourite, Ukraine won because it was a very good song.

United Kingdom came 2nd, after receiving 0 points last year, a remarkable comeback considering both 2021’s result and the last two decades of results for the country. Sam Ryder’s Space Man received a total of 466 points, with 283 from the Jury vote and 183 from the Televote, meaning the United Kingdom topped the Jury vote. The United Kingdom also smashed their previous point total of 227 points.

British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, commented on the win for Ukraine, as well as the United Kingdom’s 2nd place.

It is expected that Ukraine’s broadcaster, Suspilne, won’t be able to stage the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, especially in light of the event becoming a high-profile target, if Suspilne were to stage. It is unknown what the European Broadcasting Union will decide, when it comes to the next contest, as of right now, but logically it is expected that the EBU will extend the invitation to host to the BBC, from the United Kingdom.

More details will follow in the next few days.
