Russian Hackers Tried To Dismantle Eurovision Website

It has been reported that a Killnet, a Russian cyber-terrorist group, attempted to attack the Eurovision.tv website, last night.

Killnet are a cyber-terrorist group based in Russia, and widely thought to be controlled by the Kremlin. Last night, during the Second Eurovision Song Contest Semi Final, the group targeted several Italian government websites, including that of their parliament, military and National Health Institute, with limited success, which included some going down for around an hour. As well as this, they attempted to attack Eurovision.tv, the official website of the Eurovision Song Contest. Fortunately, Killnet were not successful in their attack and the Eurovision website was unaffected to the public.

Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, the President of Italy’s Senate, commented about the attack on the Parliament’s website, by saying: “No damage from the attack which involved the external network of the Senate. Thanks to the technicians for the immediate intervention. These are serious episodes, which should not be underestimated. We will continue to keep our guard up.”
