Israeli pop-sensation, Noa Kirel, has been announced by KAN as Israel’s representative for the 67th Eurovision Song Contest.
Following their previous announcement that they’d be ditching The X Factor next year, and selecting their contestant internally, KAN have surprised everyone with one of the earliest artist announcements in Eurovision history. In fact, we don’t even have an official host country yet, but we do have an artist!
Noa Kirel, who has been announced as representing the nation, is about as big as you could get for Eurovision. For most of the last decade, she’s been one of the most successfully commercial artists in Israel and the Middle East. Her debut single “Killer” peaked at No.1 on the Israeli chart, and nearly every single since has done the same. Most recently, she’s had a huge success with her song “Bad Little Thing“.
However, despite the seeming certainty about Noa Kirel’s participation, there’s an element of doubt that surrounds the announcement. According to sources, close to KAN & Noa Kirel’s team, she hasn’t formally accepted KAN’s invite, instead telling them only “maybe”. It seems that KAN took that maybe as a yes and jumped the gun in announcing her as their entrant, maybe in hope that the announcement would secure her.
It is still very possible that Israel’s 2023 entry will be someone entirely different. Updates will follow in the coming weeks.
