Luxembourg to return to Eurovision Song Contest in 2024

The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has announced its return to the Eurovision Song Contest, 30 years after its last participation in 1993, and 40 years after its last victory.

RTL have announced that Luxembourg will be returning to the Eurovision Song Contest next year. Following their relegation after the 1993 contest, and subsequent refusal to broadcast the show in 1994, Luxembourg have been absent from the contest for 30 years.

Luxembourg were one of the Eurovision Song Contest‘s founding nations, being amongst the first seven at Lugano 1956. This will be the first time in decades that all seven founding nations will be reunited at the contest.

We are delighted that Luxembourg is returning to the Eurovision Song Contest – and even more excited that RTL Luxembourg will take on the exhilarating task of selecting the 2024 delegation. As a media company that is dedicated to the people of Luxembourg, we are looking forward to broadcasting the star-studded live shows. Viewers will be able to experience the Eurovision Song Contest in its full glory.

Christophe Goossens, CEO of RTL Luxembourg

It was earlier today that Luxembourg’s Government gave a reassuring official endorsement of the country’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. The selection of the 2024 delegation and the artist to represent Luxembourg at the competition will be the responsibility of RTL Luxembourg, a member of the European Broadcasting Union.

We are thrilled to welcome back Luxembourg to the Eurovision Song Contest after 30 years. The country has one of the most successful records in the Contest with 5 wins in the first three decades of the competition alone. We very much look forward to working with RTL on their return to the world’s biggest live music event in 2024.

Martin Österdahl, Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest

With 5 victories across 37 Contests, Luxembourg remains one of the most successful participating countries in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest.
