KAN have announced that they will be returning to selecting their Eurovision Song Contest representative through the talent show, Rising Star, in 2024.
Rising Star was first used as Israel’s selection method for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015, and was used in every subsequent year until 2020. Due to Eden Alene’s internal selection in 2021, it wasn’t used, but did orignally plan to return in 2022, before KAN opted to use The X Factor instead. Despite going internal, to get success, in 2023, KAN have decided that Rising Star will be making a comeback next year.
Rising Star has, of course, already produced a Eurovision Song Contest winner, with Netta in 2018. She won Rising Star with a mashup of Kesha’s TikTok and Psy’s Gangnam Style and was therefore selected as Israel’s representative. She worked with a team of songwriters and producers to put together Toy in the weeks after her win, which was released a month later.
Despite being an international talent show franchise, Rising Star originated in the Israeli format, and is so successful that it has continued to run without it’s Eurovision connection. However, since then, the show has moved to the summer/autumn season, so it’s been announced that the 2023 edition, due to air toward the end of the year, will be moved to the beginning of 2024, to fit in with the Eurovision National Final season.
Rising Star will air on KAN in early 2024.
