Eurovision Song Contest: Latin America starting in 2023!

The EBU have announced another new Eurovision Song Contest spinoff, this time in Latin America. The contest will take place throughout the continent and be produced by the same team who produced the American Song Contest.

Provisionally titled “Eurovision Song Contest: Latin America“, the contest will start in 2023, produced by Voxovation, the EBU and the host broadcaster, in whichever country hosts the first contest. Voxovation are the company who produced the 2022 American Song Contest, in the United States, with a team made up of the likes of Christer Björkman, Anders Lenhoff, Ola Melzig, Peter Settman and Greg Lipstone.

Earlier this year, Spanish broadcaster RTVE, announced a similar contest “Hispavisión Song Contest“, which they were going to produce in partnership with a South America broadcaster, where the Spanish speaking world would all compete in a ESC-style format. It is now unknown whether Hispavisión will take place or whether a merger between the two formats could occur.

Martin Österdahl, the Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, says: “Following on from the launch of the American Song Contest, and with plans underway for Eurovision Song Contest Canada next year, the European Broadcasting Union is thrilled to be now working with Voxovation on bringing the excitement and magic of the Eurovision Song Contest to Latin America. The unique Eurovision format finds new fans across the globe every year and we can’t wait to expand the brand in this hugely diverse part of the world.

More details about the exact format of the contest will be announced in due course.
